THE PROJECT
The new building provides facilities for:
• Specialist Palliative Care Unit and Stepdown Community Ward
• Care of the Elderly Ward
• Stroke Rehabilitation Unit
• Children and Young People’s Ward
OUR APPROACH
Designed to enhance both patient care and experience, the building integrates modern medical facilities with patient-centric spaces. Private therapeutic courtyards, dedicated family areas and calming environments have been incorporated throughout, to improve well-being and support recovery.
WHAT WE DID
The building’s crisp elevations provide a pleasant contrast with the flowing Cumbrian hills. The façade was constructed using pre-cast concrete panels that were manufactured offsite. This was a key element in achieving greater than 70% Modern Methods of Construction for the whole project.
THE IMPACT
The patient-centric design serves to enhance the quality of care for all. The Rehabilitation department features a specialist outdoor garden and rehabilitation ‘challenge path’. Clever use of the P22 repeatable rooms maximises efficiency whilst not compromising on patient safety or staff needs.

“I’m really proud of everyone who has brought this project to life over the last four years, none more so than our own staff who have been integral in getting the right design approved and over the line for their patients. This will make a huge difference to our patient experience. We hope our patients and visitors and the rest of Team NCIC will agree this has been a great project and certainly worth all the hard work. Well done to everyone involved!”
