THE PROJECT
Our goal was to develop a comprehensive mental health facility, complete with a 16-bed general adolescent ward, a 6-bed psychiatric intensive care unit, a CAMHS S136 unit, as well as additional therapy spaces, a school, and staff facilities.
This new centre aimed to replace the previous Little Woodhouse Hall and reduce the need for out-of-area placements.
OUR APPROACH
Drawing inspiration from the natural, wooded surroundings, the building's design mimics a river meandering through a forest.
This also respects the environmental constraints posed by the protected trees. Central courtyards and gardens offer dedicated outdoor spaces for various activities and therapies.
WHAT WE DID
In close collaboration with healthcare providers and service users, we hosted a number of workshops, surveys and educational events to ensure the new facility reflected the voices of those it intended to serve. We then delivered architecture, interior design, and art coordination services, all while respecting the natural settings and gardens.
THE IMPACT
Red Kite View aims to improve local mental healthcare for children and young people in and around Leeds, reducing the need for out-of-area placements and, ultimately, setting new benchmarks for mental healthcare delivery.
We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in this story.
