Client
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust
Location
Liverpool, Merseyside
Value
£54,000,000
Gross internal floor area
8,018m2
THE PROJECT
As part of a national initiative to eliminate outdated dormitories, the hospital will replace existing units Broadoak and Windsor House. It houses four 20-bed wards, an assessment unit, a Section-136 suite, and a wellbeing clinic.
OUR APPROACH
Inspired by the Grade II-listed Mossley House designed by Alfred Waterhouse, the hospital echoes historic architectural elements like double gables and ridge-mounted chimneys in its design. The structure navigates a steep slope and integrates the presence of surrounding protected trees.
WHAT WE DID
We crafted an architectural design that merges modern amenities with traditional elements, in full alignment with Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust’s needs.
THE IMPACT
Mossley Hill Hospital will be a cornerstone in Liverpool’s mental health landscape, reducing the need for outdated dormitory facilities, improving patient experiences and setting a fresh standard for therapeutic environments within the city.
