THE PROJECT

The £105m project is part of the Government’s New Hospital programme and replaces the Trust’s aging Park House unit with a brand-new state if the art facility. The new building represents a huge investment in Mental Health services for the Manchester region and will allow a real centre of excellence to be delivered in the heart of the community it serves.

The North View name was selected after an open competition across the Trust and Community and draws on the Lemn Sissay poem Anthem of the North, sharing its northern roots, cultural heritage and themes of hope, resilience and rebirth through adversity.

THE PROJECT
OUR APPROACH

The North View Project was designed as part of the NHP redevelopment of the North Manchester General site. A master planning approach was crucial to align it with the Acute Hospital, Health and Wellbeing hub, MSCPs, and infrastructure. It creatively uses the site’s topography for inpatient wards, prioritising private outdoor spaces. Interior design and art installations enhance the sense of place. The project adheres to rigorous standards, including Net Zero Carbon commitment for modern Mental Health environments.

OUR APPROACH
WHAT WE DID

With 150 beds across 9 wards, including specialised areas like Adult Acute, Older Adult, Dementia, PICU, and S136 areas, the design includes therapy and activity spaces for recovery and well-being. The building also houses training and Community team bases, governance, and corporate services for the Trust.

The central spine serves as a hub, connecting services efficiently, and acts as an orientation zone for visitors, staff, and service users. The advanced energy centre aligns with the Net Zero and Sustainability goals of the NHS for its future estate.

WHAT WE DID
THE IMPACT

The North View project reflects the single biggest investment in Mental Health services in Greater Manchester for a generation. It marks a making amends for the poor investment of the past, a recognition and understanding of the importance of Mental health services in today’s society, as well as symbolising hope, respect and recovery for the most vulnerable in society. It will transform not only patient but staff experiences and allow the Trust to deliver on its key aims and ambitions.
