The Big Push
Client: Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust
Value: £10 Million
Status: On-site. The overall project completion is targeted at the end of May 2013.
The Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust which is the largest single site maternity hospital in Europe has over the last 2 years have been reviewing their model of care which involved a complete reconfiguration of how they deliver maternity services in a way that meets the needs of the patients and improves overall patient experience.
The ‘Big Push’ project involves the re-organisation of the existing maternity services and post delivery wards to improve facilities at the hospital which delivers 8,500 babies a year. The project has been split into 4 phases, these have then been broken down into smaller sub-phases optimizing the number of beds to remain active during the works.
The Trust’s input in establishing the phasing strategy was essential to the success of the procurement approach. Their involvement has also been encouraged throughout the construction period. Weekly meetings are held with Trust representatives and staff to make them aware of any interruptions the works may cause to the day to day running of departments. This forum provides an open environment for staff to raise any concerns they have about the build process. Regular site visits and news letters have also been arranged to keep hospital staff fully informed of progress on site. A BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating is being targeted for this project.
