Gilling Dod were lead consultants, architect, contract administrator and landscape architect for the major development at The Royal Bolton Hospital which at the time was the single largest project in the North West Regional Health Authority budget.
The project was in the heart of a functioning acute hospital and next to the maternity unit and special care baby unit requiring careful management of contractor, the public and staff. The scheme included the redevelopment of accident & emergency, radio-diagnostic, main entrance, pharmacy, kitchen, general out-patients department, fracture clinic, 200 adult acute beds, dining room, ear nose and throat department, ophthalmology, dental clinics, endoscopy unit, day surgical unit, intensive care unit, children’s ward, administration and medical records, hospital sterilisation & disinfection unit, theatres, separate pathology and mortuary building, on call block and new network of covered corridors, roads and car parks.
The scheme was completed 3 months ahead of programme.
